Loans for Young, Beginning, Small, Military Veterans and Minority (YBSMVM) Farmers

Finding a reliable source of credit can be a challenge, especially if you're starting a new farm, transferring to an existing farm, or simply growing your operation.

If you qualify as a young, beginning, small, or minority farmer, First South Farm Credit can guide you through the YBSMVM financing program and related services customized to fit your unique needs.

Serving the agricultural credit needs of YBSMVM farmers is vital to the future of agriculture in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

That is why First South pays special attention to serving the needs of this important group of farmers and follows guidelines established to ensure full cooperation with governmental and private sources of credit.

Who Qualifies For YBSMVM Loans

In order to reflect the current demographics of agriculture, the Farm Credit Administration has adopted the following definitions:

  • Young Farmer - 35 years of age or younger
  • Beginning Farmer - 10 or fewer years of experience
  • Small Farmer - Generates less than $350,000 in annual gross sales
  • Military Veteran Farmer - serves or has served in the military including active, discharged, or released under conditions other than dishonorable

Applicants that do not meet the eligibility requirements or financing guidelines for the YBSMVM program may still be eligible for a loan from First South.

How First South Can Help

To further service the needs of YBSMVM farmers, First South is a Farm Service Agency (FSA) Preferred Lender and a Small Business Administration (SBA) Approved Lender. In order to help manage credit risk, First South supports participation in the FSA and/or SBA guarantee programs.
