Dave Heinen: Growing His Farming Legacy

Nestled in the heart of Louisiana's agricultural landscape, Dave Heinen's farm is a testament to the enduring spirit of farming and family. A dedicated farmer and member of First South Farm Credit, Dave has cultivated not only rice and crawfish but also a legacy that spans generations.

Dave's journey into farming began the day he was born. His father was a farmer and by the time Dave was six, he was driving a tractor to help out the farm. But Dave's story is not just about crops and fields; it's about family. His children have followed in his footsteps, each carving out their own path in the agriculture industry. Will Heinen, Dave's son, works alongside him on the farm, continuing the family legacy. Dave's daughters, Lauren Heinen, Anna Heinen Howard, and McKinley Heinen Horaist, have made their mark in a different yet equally impactful way. Anna Howard obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and serves as veterinarian.  As the first female district attorney of Jefferson Davis Parish, Lauren has broken barriers for women in leadership roles. McKinley Horaist works as a loan officer with First South Farm Credit where she helps farmers like her father thrive in the agriculture industry.

Dave began business with First South Farm Credit over 25 years go and stated this is was one of the best decisions he has made. The association’s resources and agricultural knowledge have enabled Dave to implement advanced farming techniques and maintain the sustainability of his operations through the years. As a member, Dave values the sense of community and shared knowledge that comes with being part of First South Farm Credit.

The Heinen family's story is one of resilience, innovation, and community. Despite facing challenges such as seed shortages and unpredictable weather, Dave and his family have remained steadfast in their commitment to farming and agriculture.  First South is proud to partner with Dave and tell the story of his farming legacy.
