Celebrating Excellence: Tim Losavio Honored by LSU College of Agriculture

At First South Farm Credit, we take pride in the dedication and leadership of our team members—and today, we’re thrilled to celebrate a special recognition for one of our own.
On April 25th, the LSU AgCenter and College of Agriculture hosted the second annual AgExcellence Awards Ceremony. This event, led by Vice President and Dean Matt Lee and emceed by Veronica Mosgrove of the Louisiana Office of Tourism, honors individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the advancement of agriculture.
Among this year’s honorees was Tim Losavio, our Senior Vice President of Lending, who received the Early Career Outstanding Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture Alumni Association.
“Being recognized as the 2025 LSU College of Agriculture Early Career Alumnus of the Year is an amazing accomplishment for Tim Losavio,” said Lenny Waguespack. “Considering the large number of College of Agriculture graduates each year and the stellar accomplishments of many early career professionals, for Tim to be selected for this award is truly commendable.”
Tim’s recognition is a testament to his unwavering commitment to agricultural communities and his impactful work in rural lending. His leadership at First South Farm Credit continues to support farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses across the region, helping them grow and thrive.
“I’m extremely honored to be recognized alongside so many other worthy recipients,” Tim shared. “Even though I didn’t grow up on a family farm, I always had a genuine interest and appreciation for agriculture and the outdoors. First South Farm Credit gave me an opportunity to seize on those interests after I graduated from LSU—and the past 13 years has flown by!”
“Agriculture is such a worthwhile and rewarding industry to serve,” he continued. “Without ag and all the farmers producing our various commodities, where would we be as a local community, state, nation, or world? Agriculture impacts virtually every aspect of our everyday life.”
Waguespack highlighted Tim’s leadership style and the impact he has on his team:
“Tim is a humble, servant leader who leads by example. He maintains high expectations from himself and others on the team he supervises, but because he leads with empathy and genuine concern for every employee, the employees are motivated to perform and do their best for the team.”
Tim echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of supporting farmers through challenges:
“Farmers are such hardworking, faithful people who are constantly dealing with adversity in the form of weather, commodity markets, labor, or supply chains—all factors outside of their control. Anytime we can provide some stability or consistency for them and their operations, we want to do that.”
“The entire First South team is dedicated to our mission of serving farmers and rural communities in good times and bad—and this cycle we’re currently in has been no exception. I strongly commend and appreciate our field staff for lending courageously and constructively this year.”
Waguespack added,
“Tim promotes the vision created by the senior management team to help First South remain strong and progressive for its members. I am very proud of what Tim Losavio has accomplished over the first 12 years of his First South career. His intelligence and desire to improve every day will keep him striving to be his best for First South, its members, and the employees he supervises.”
Tim concluded with heartfelt gratitude:
“While the individual award and recognition is greatly appreciated, I’ve been extremely fortunate to be part of a great team at First South and to have strong relationships with partners like LSU and the College of Ag. The main reason I’ve experienced any level of success in my early career is due to my teammates and mentors along the way. Continuing to build on the foundation of all those that have served before or alongside me has been a true blessing.”
We are incredibly proud of Tim and this well-deserved honor. Congratulations, Tim, and thank you for your continued dedication to agriculture!
